Jake Buchanan recieved his Bachelors of Arts in history and political science from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2004, and later, his Masters of Arts in history from Virginia's College of William and Mary, where he focused in modern military history. During his graduate studies, he was the recipient of the Andrew W. Mellon Research Fellowship, and has been nominated on two separate occasions for the Herbert Feis Award through the American Historical Society.

Before coming to our school, Mr. Buchanan spent several years as a historian and educator with the Massachusetts Historical Society, as well as a freelance lecuturer on military history. In addition, he also has lent his knowledge to various documentaries, books, and publications such as Smithsonain Magazine. His work has taken him all over the United States, the world, and even brought him to BUA for the first time in 2014, as a part of our senior honors seminar.

He has been a visiting professor at BU since 2014, and a full time member of the BUA faculty since the fall of 2016, and has contributed so much to both our school and it's students in that time. His passion for hisotry, enthusiasm for teaching, and habit of excited storytelling make him an easy favorite of our students. (Although the motorcycle probably doesn't hurt.)
